Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • But, their status as important members in the powerful family could assist the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which characters will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
