World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total over 50 million spectators across the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series drew over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance after 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
